Music Widget

Control Apple Music, Spotify, and Kaset from your Mac notch

NotchDock’s Music widget works with Apple Music, Spotify, and Kaset, a separate player for YouTube Music. The available controls depend on which supported player is active.

Set up a supported player

  1. Install and open Apple Music or Spotify. For YouTube Music, install and open Kaset.
  2. Open NotchDock’s Music Settings and check that the player appears under Permissions & Sources.
  3. Grant the requested macOS automation permission for that player so NotchDock can read its playback state and send supported controls.

The widget does not claim support for every browser tab, podcast app, or audio player. A supported player must be available and accessible to macOS automation.

Use the controls that player supports

  • Apple Music and Spotify: track details, play or pause, previous or next track, and playback seeking.
  • Kaset (YouTube Music): track details, play or pause, previous or next track, and a Like control. The current seek method is not supported for Kaset.

Artwork is shown when available. Music artwork is read from the Music app; artwork for Spotify or Kaset can be loaded from the artwork URL supplied by that player, so this feature is not strictly offline.

When access is missing

If the expanded widget reports that access is required, open Music Settings and review the permission row for the player you use. If no supported app is detected, install and open one of the listed players. You can also turn off Show in Notch View in Music Settings if you do not want the compact widget in the notch.

Common questions

Does NotchDock control every media app on my Mac?

No. The current integration targets Apple Music, Spotify, and Kaset. Controls vary by player as listed above.

Can I Like a track from the notch?

The Like control appears for Kaset, which connects to YouTube Music. It is not shown for Apple Music or Spotify.

Does the feature work without network access?

Not in every case. Player control uses macOS automation, and some artwork may be fetched from a player-provided URL. The player and its own service may also require a network connection.

Keep supported music controls close

NotchDock is free during the current beta and requires macOS 14 or later.
