Reduce Mac notification interruptions: a practical checklist

Review which app alerts you need during a work block, then use macOS settings to control delivery. Keep important alerts enabled.

Reduce Mac notification interruptions: a practical checklist

Make a notification plan for one work block

  1. List the apps whose alerts need an immediate response and leave those notifications available.
  2. In System Settings → Notifications, adjust the alert style for one lower-priority app.
  3. If you need a temporary quiet period, configure a Focus with the people and apps you still want to hear from.
  4. After the work block, review missed alerts and adjust the allow list.

This workflow does not claim a health effect. NotchDock’s timer can mark a work interval, but it does not change notification settings or turn Focus on automatically. Read Apple’s Notifications guide and Focus guide.

NotchDock is currently free during beta and requires macOS 14 or newer.
