Record the display configuration
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Displays and record the selected resolution or scaling option.
- Record the MacBook Air model and chip, macOS version, NotchDock version, and whether an external display is connected.
- Restart the app after changing the display arrangement, then note whether the alignment changes.
Apple’s Displays settings guide explains where resolution, arrangement, and display use are configured. Options can vary by Mac and connected display.
Use safe-area values, not a copied size table
For developers diagnosing a layout, inspect the active screen’s safeAreaInsets and auxiliaryTopLeftArea/auxiliaryTopRightArea. Apple defines these as unobscured layout regions, not as a physical ruler for the camera housing. Compare the same values before and after changing scaling. The AppKit safe-area reference describes the distinction.
What the reviewed NotchDock source does
The current source calculates a center region from the active screen’s frame and auxiliary top-corner widths. If no auxiliary areas are available, it falls back to a configured width. I found no separate MacBook Air geometry table in the reviewed implementation, so this article does not claim an Air-only profile or a particular point measurement.
If the overlay remains misaligned, attach the configuration details above and a screenshot to a support report. Do not infer a hardware defect from a scaled screenshot alone.
